Bloomington Chamber Singers will open its 53rd season Saturday evening, November 12th, 2022, with a concert of American Choral Gems. The 40-voice chorus under the direction of Gerald Sousa will perform masterworks by composers from the 20th century as well as those currently forging new paths in the repertoire. Among the works to be presented will be Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms and In the Beginning by Aaron Copland. Also on the program will be pieces by Barber, Lauridsen, Dominick DiOrio, Elaine Hagenberg, and a few surprises as well!
BCS at the Holidays has been a tradition for a number of years, and this year we continue the December 11th 3:00 pm offering with a reprise of last year’s popular A Ceremony of Carols by Benjamin Britten. Also on the program is On Christmas Night, a beautiful setting of the Christmas story by the English composer Bob Chilcott. Rounding out the afternoon will be a selection of carols settings for voices and instruments. Be sure to join us for this joyful and reflective way to usher in the holiday season.
Bloomington Chamber Singers is committed to building bridges within our community, and to supporting tolerance, equality, and diversity in all its myriad forms. To that end, we are excited to present A Tapestry of Voices as our spring concert, date to be announced soon. This event will be a multimedia collaboration among several choral ensembles, poets, and media artists emphasizing inclusion, equity, diversity, and justice. Presented as a celebration and a showcase of the rich variety of offerings in our area, the evening will emphasize how we can learn and grow through sharing with each other.
